Selecting your pergola location include considering sun exposure, ground stability, and proximity to your house, while also complying with local building codes and homeowner association (HOA) rules. Choose a location that meets your shading needs based on sun angles, ensure the ground is level, and leave adequate clearance for maintenance and permits.

Existing Floor Area Conditions

Your pergola footings are crucial for stability, providing a stable, level base and counterweight against the wind. The specific type of footing and depth depends on factors like the pergola's size, design, and local building codes.  If you have a concrete slab a minimum of 4" high already built in the area where you plan to install your pergola, or you are planning to build one, just select Concrete Slab. If you have Pavers, Grass or a Deck and not concrete slab under it, then you must require one footing per each of the columns or post your pergola has. Our footings are usually 3'x3'x2', with #5 rebar and about 1,000 lb. of concrete per footing. Building a pergola that can withstand Florida's weather, such as strong winds and heavy rains, is a significant safety concern that requires a permit  and you will absolutely need permission from the City and your Homeowner's Association. This applies to both freestanding pergolas and those attached to your home. Building without a required permit can result in fines, stop-work orders, or the forced removal of the structure, which is generally more costly and stressful than obtaining a permit initially. In order to get the best estimate for your project. Please, select your existing floor area condition below.
